Mikki K. Harris

Professor Mikki K. Harris uses a journalistic approach to understanding the cultural context of community, both past and present using innovative visual storytelling. She is a multimedia journalist whose work over the past 20 years has focused on community-based power as examined through the tools of journalism and cultural studies. Her work with MMJ includes research using oral history in the Caribbean, collaboration with filmmaker Emani Saucier to direct and produce a documentary on Johnnetta Betsch Cole, GIS mapping of communal land throughout the Caribbean, and faculty development in the digital humanities. A certified drone pilot since 2019, Harris works to expand the certification and participation of underrepresented storytellers using drones. She also designs and teaches digital media and visual innovation courses.
